February 13, 2016: \u201cThe American people should have a voice in the selection of their next Supreme Court Justice,\u201d McConnell said in a statement released after Scalia\u2019s death. \u201cTherefore, this vacancy should not be filled until we have a new president.\u201d <\/strong>The next election was in November and the new president would not take office until Jan 21, 2017.
